UBD® Image makes an ideal backdrop layer for the StreetNet Routable or StreetNet Display datasets. It replicates the look and feel of the UBD® street directories in a digital (raster) format.
What are the features of UBD® Image?
UBD® Image features include:
- Digital (raster) format that complements Whereis® StreetNet products
- Familiar visual style of the UBD® street directories
- TIFF format that can be readily compressed or converted to other bit map formats
- Fully georeferenced for compatibility with GIS applications
- Detailed inner-city maps, where available, at a scale of 1:5,000 and/or 1:10,000
- Compatible with industry standard mapping and GIS software
- Streets and suburbs included as a searchable point layer, along with grid information relating directly to the UBD® street directories
- Flexible pricing based on application, number of users and extent of coverage
What are the main uses for UBD®
UBD® Image is ideal for:
- Call centres
- Vehicle dispatch
- Vehicle tracking
- Corporate and government GIS

UBD® Image technical information
UBD® Image compatibility and formats
UBD® Image is provided in 8-bit TIFF using packbits compression, divided into tiles of around 5 MB (up to a maximum of 40MB). For most areas, data is rasterised at approximately 254DPI, resulting in a pixel size of exactly 2 metres. Geo-referencing information for Arc/Info, ArcView, and MapInfo is provided. The street and suburb indexes are provided as point files that overlay precisely with the raster image for query functionality. It can also be provided as an ASCII text file upon request.
Note: TIFF can be readily compressed or converted to other bit map formats (including BMP, GIF, and JPEG) using common graphics utilities.
Associated vector layers (e.g. street names and grid references) can be provided, ready for use, in the following formats:
- ESRI Shapefiles (.SHP) or interchange format (.E00)
- MapInfo Tables (.TAB) or interchange format (.MID/.MIF)
UBD® Image can be used in association with other high-quality Whereis® digital map products (StreetNet Routable and StreetNet Display) and is built to support integration with GPS applications.
UBD® Image projection and datum
Maps and index files can be provided in either AMG (metres) or geographic (Latitude/Longitude) coordinates (however, please note that projection into geographic coordinates can affect the image quality). The AGD66, AGD84 or GDA94 datums are available for compatibility with other digital maps, while the WGS84 datum may be specified where GPS-compatibility is required.
