Aerial Imagery

Whereis® Aerial Imagery provides an aerial view of all Australian capital cities, as well as some major regional areas, at a resolution of 15cm per pixel or better. The photographs were captured with low-flying planes to provide a true ‘bird's eye’ view.

This imagery has been fully georeferenced and geometrically corrected (orthorectified) to allow for any image distortion from the effects of terrain. All the data has been captured, processed and stored digitally, resulting in clearer images than scanned conventional film images.

What are the features of Whereis® Aerial Imagery?

Whereis® Aerial Imagery features include:

Whereis® Aerial Imagery technical information

Whereis® Aerial Imagery is provided in ECW (compressed image) format. Compatible remote sensing or GIS software is required to view or manipulate the geo-referenced images. The image files tend to be extremely large, so ample memory and disk space is recommended.

Whereis® Aerial Imagery can only be provided in geographic coordinates (Latitude/Longitude) using the WGS84 datum. Each capital city is supplied as a single mosaic in ECW format. In addition, each image contains Landsat™ satellite imagery on the periphery, at a resolution of 30m per pixel. Most remote sensing and GIS software systems can view and/or manipulate ECW files.

Whereis® Aerial Imagery can overlay other Whereis® digital map products, and is fully georeferenced to support integration with GPS applications.
