Map Accuracy

Across Australia, people rely on Whereis® map data.

At Whereis®, our team of experts are continually capturing and updating changes to the Australian road network. These self-confessed map geeks logged more than 320,000 km last year, spending more than 15,000 hours on the road.

Once the thousands of kilometres of data have been captured by the road crews, the data is fed back to a desktop for post-processing, where an elite team of more than 50 mapping experts view, analyse and interpolate the vast amounts of data collected using in-house video data recognition software.

The mapping experts also cross-check the accuracy of the data using aerial photography accurate to 7.5 cm, as well as field and desktop research, before virtually driving thousands of kilometres of imagery to ensure that main road attributes and other information are accurately recorded.

But don’t just take our word for it.

Our team also tracks and confirms the location of thousands of local businesses and other points of interest, as well as speed limits, safety alerts and much more.
